10 day Witch filming coming to an end

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal:

The race is on, but only for a few more days, as “Race to Witch Mountain” races to complete its 10-day Vegas location visit Thursday.

Planet Hollywood Resort serves as headquarters for the update of the 1975 Disney favorite “Escape to Witch Mountain.”

The movie stars Dwayne Johnson (better known, during his wrestling days, as The Rock) in the role of a down-on-his-luck Vegas cabby whose two teen passengers (AnnaSophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig) are really aliens with telepathic and telekinetic powers.

“Witch Mountain” represents a reunion for Johnson and his “Game Plan” director, Andy Fickman, who turned out to be “a huge UFO nut and a massive fan of the original movie” and its 1978 sequel, notes producer Andrew Gunn. (more…)

“The Rock” stopping traffic in downtown Las Vegas

The “most electrifying man in sports entertainment” is turning heads in Las Vegas this week.Filming is underway downtown on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s newest film, a remake of the Disney classic “Escape to Witch Mountain.”

The production has forced traffic to shut down Fremont Street from Las Vegas Blvd. to Eighth Street until 5 p.m., Las Vegas Blvd. will also be closed between Ogden and Carson until 3 p.m.

Unless you’re a fan hoping to get a glimpse of the stars, try to avoid the area using Main or 3rd Streets.

The film, re-titled “Race to Witch Mountain” is set to release in March 2009.

Johnson will next be seen in “Get Smart”, which hits theaters June 20.

Witch Mountain Shoot location update

Wrestling hero Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson starts a 10-day location shoot today (TUES) for the new version of Walt Disney’s 1975 Escape to Witch Mountain. He’ll star as a Vegas cabdriver in the new Race to Witch Mountain, which is adventure after picking up to teen runaways who are in fact aliens from a crashed spaceship in our desert land outside the Strip. They are played by Anna Sophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig.

RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN Cast Rounding Out…

Ain’t it cool news has up some news about Witch Mountain:

Ciaran Hinds (HBO’s ROME and Michael Mann’s MIAMI VICE movie) and Alexander Ludwig (THE SEEKER) have joined the cast of Disney’s RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN.

Our dude AnonyMouse says the film is no considered a “remake” by Disney. Rather, it’s seen as an extension of the the existing films (ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN & RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN)…as well as a “re-imagining”.

This iteration is about a Las Vegas cab driver who ends up helping two human-looking-but-alien kids get to their spaceship so they can convince their people not to clobber Earth.

The film also stars Dwayne Johnson (aka “The Rock”) and Anna Sophia Robb (BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA & JUMPER - presumably she’s the girl alien kid). I believe they’re still looking to cast the boy alien kid.

It’s being directed by Andy Fickman (SHE’S THE MAN, THE GAME PLAN) for release next year.
