The Rock Talks Shazam, Get Smart and more!

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was in Sin City Sunday for a special Cinevegas charity premiere of Get Smart to benefit The Rock Foundation children’s charity.

Director Peter Segal told SCI FI Wire that the recently settled writers’ strike delayed his proposed Shazam! movie, but that it’s still in active development.”I think it’ll still happen,” Segal (Get Smart) said in a group interview at WonderCon in San Francisco over the weekend. “Though timing is going to be a key issue now, because … normally we’d be working on a script while we’re in post-production [on Get Smart], so that hopefully when we’re done with post-production, we’re ready to go into preproduction [on the next project]. But now we’re sort of out of sync, so, unfortunately, I’ll have to spend more time with my family.” (That last comment was a joke.) (more…)

Peter Segal reveals exclusively to the IESB that his big screen adaptation of D.C. Comics’ Shazam will have a much longer title.Our roving reporter Silas Lesnick just finished talking to Peter Segal who gives a brief update on Shazam. Now that the WGA strike is over John August is doing some re-writes and that they are looking to call the film “Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam.” Nifty title me thinks.

No word on who will be playing Shazam but he is quite happy with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam. (more…)

Ok I just heard about this recently so take with a grain of salt but according to sohood.com:

He just completed filming Get Smart with comedian Steve Carell and Bill Murray that is set to release June 20, 2008! He’s also in Witch Mountain (2009) and just recently it has been announced that he’ll play a superhero in the film titled Shazam! He’ll play a character named Black Adam. Superhero films are all the rage now, and new ideas are popping up everyday. But one film, one character, has been talked about forever – and I mean forever. That would be Captain Marvel.

So who’s going to play the DC Comics man of red and yellow – not The Flash? Well, it could be none other than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Today, during a visit to the set of Get Smart, Johnson was wide eyed when the very idea was brought up to re-team with director Peter Segal in the feature, Shazam! (more…)
