Dwayne Johnson gives a TOOTH FAIRY Update

credit: collider

Yesterday, Collider attended the “Get Smart” press conference with Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and he talked a lot about his upcoming projects – including the family comedy “Tooth Fairy” from 20th Century Fox. Michael Lembeck (”The Santa Clause”) is directing the film in which the Rock plays, appropriately enough – the Tooth Fairy.

Here’s what he had to say about his look for the character:

I want you to envision me right now, what would be the most funniest thing you could possibly imagine?

I’m not sure what the most funniest thing I could imagine is… I’m reaching here, but it might include Jesus, creamed corn and night vision? Oh! Sorry, was I supposed to imagine the most funniest Tooth Fairy-related thing? I’m stumped then, please continue Dwayne:

The funny thing is, I have a really bad shoulder injury in it and one of the wings just grows–one of the wings is a beautiful wing and is a little, messed up one that doesn’t quite grow correctly, making me fly around sometimes and fly into things. But it’s really, really funny…

The Biz: Would You Believe? Subway, Sierra Mist, A-B To Get Smart

According the Brandweek:

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will star in the TV spots as his character, Agent 23. A retro-cool silhouette of the movie’s stars will appear on the drink labels and packaging. The Pepsi brand has created extensive in-store materials and spy-centric consumer offers around the theme.

MAXWELL SMART may be fighting Kaos for world domination, but it’s Hollywood studios that will be locked in a battle for moviegoers’ attention during the upcoming summer season.

N utritional supplement maker MetRX has signed Julie Foudy to a pact that will splash the soccer star’s image across TV, print and in-store efforts for the Women’s World Cup tourney in China. (more…)

Get Smart then and now

USA Today posted a look at the remake films due out this summer here’s an excerpt from the article about Get Smart:

June 20: Get Smart

Back then: CONTROL agents Maxwell Smart and Agent 99 (Don Adams and Barbara Feldon) battled the evil organization KAOS from 1965 to 1970 in a televised spoof of the James Bond spy genre, produced by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry.

And now: Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway take over the main roles, with twist. Max is a new agent being trained by 99, who is a hard-bitten veteran. “We stay true to the spirit of 99 but make her the fully realized woman of her time. That means something different in 2008 than it meant in the ’60s,” Hathaway says. “I am totally Obi-Wan.” The plot is nonsensical, as always, with comical gadgets (including the famous shoe phone) coming into play as the duo try to stop a bizarre new scheme and still work in all the old catchphrases.

And later: Remakes of TV shows can be hit or miss. Get Smart will have to connect with audiences in a big way, and even then it’s rare to see a TV-to-movie sequel. —A.B.
