“Gridiron Gang,” the movie Rock is currently shooting in Hollywood (well, technically the Santa Monica Mountains), is at this point scheduled for a January release over Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday holiday weekend. Principal photography began on 5/26. According to the release, Rock, going by the name Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson, and Xzibit (star of MTV’s “Pimp My Ride”) star in recreation of a real story about a football team from a juvenile detention camp. Rock plays probation officer and coach Sean Porter. It was based on an Emmy Award winning TV documentary from 1993.
