Dwayne Johnson, better known to the world as The Rock, wrestled in
a sold out show at the Blasidell Arena in June. Now, the former Hawaii
resident is back in town but this time he’s talking movies.
The wrestling star turned movie star arrived in the islands last
week. He’ll be here for the next month and a half as he works on a
couple of film projects with local ties.
To wrestling fans, he’s known simply as “The Rock.” but
30-year-old Dwayne Johnson is making his way from the wrestling ring
to the silver screen.
The Rock is in Hawaii to promote the DVD release of his movie
“The Scorpion King,” which also features local actress Kelly
Hu.
“The outtakes are great…very, very funny. Here’s a great one
right here, it’s me and Kelly. We’re trying to get on the camel, and
you’ll see what happens,” says The Rock.
Now the rock will once again call Hawaii home as he shoots his
latest movie, “Helldorado.”
“We’re on the north side, doing scenes in Kaneohe, so it’s
really, really great. I can’t wait,” says The Rock.
While his film career may be taking off, he says even Hollywood
can’t compete with the thrill of a live audience.
“Nothing can ever simulate that for me…that energy, that
passion and that vibe that the crowd gives me.”
So whether you’re a wrestling die hard or a film fanatic, The
Rock’s got a special message for all of his fans.
“Appreciate all the support, thank you very much, and
aloha!”
The DVD release of “The Scorpion King” hits store shelves
on October 1st. The Rock will also star in a movie about King
Kamehameha due out in theaters in 2005.
