Premise :Based on the original ’60s sitcom, created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, which starred Don Adams (also famous for voicing Inspector Gadget on the animated TV show) as Agent 86, a hapless but lucky spy working for CONTROL (read; the U.S.) during the Cold War, tirelessly trying to eradicate the evil doings of the decidedly commie KAOS.

I have received a report from a well-placed double agent in the movie’s production (let’s call this person Agent Grelmin) who has seen the movie set. Agent Grelmin reports that the set for CONTROL HQ is huge and quite impressive (sorry, no pictures so that I can protect Grelmin’s identity). Agent Grelmin also reports that CONTROL HQ looks remarkably like the headquarters for Men in Black. Not just similar in style, but strikingly alike. It is clear to Agent Grelmin that this has been designed for the attack (see Plot Summary below) and I won’t say anymore because it would involve spoilers. Agent Grelmin also reports that the above the line costs are quite significant on this movie and are causing the below the line items to be “squeezed.” Carell and Hathaway are both coming off hits so their salary demands are significant and The Rock isn’t cheap either.

Maxwell Smart is an overweight intelligence expert for the secret government security agency CONTROL. He dreams of being a spy in the field, like his hero, CONTROL Agent 23. When enemy agency KAOS breaks into CONTROL files and learns the identity of all CONTROL spies, The Chief is forced to place Smart in the field, working with recent plastic surgery patient Agent 99. 99 must teach Smart that there’s more to being a spy than following the manual. Smart and 99 chase down Nenad Krstic, a nuclear weapons smuggler for KAOS. Overeager wanna-be spy Max shoots the spy before they can get any information from him. The duo hunt clues that lead them to an Italian Bakery and KAOS agent Szczerbiak. Max and 99 manage to defeat the villains, and celebrate their victory by having sex.
KAOS turns serious, threatening to detonate a nuclear bomb in America if their demands are not met. It’s up to Max and 99 to team together again and save the day.
