Over the last couple of days I have been posting a fair amount of Get Smart related articles and interviews to the IDJ.net Press archives. Please make sure you are visiting the archives or reading the scrolling headlines section to stay in know. I try to filter through the article and make sure it’s not the same recycled stuff. On a side note I saw Get Smart on Monday night because I won 4 tickets off the radio to a special screening and you guys have to see this movie. Dwayne’s character is so funny. I was laughing the entire time. Steve Carell had me in tears. I know a lot of people thought the trailer was the whole movie but it is not. I had to drive like an hour to the special screening theater but it was worth it. Can’t wait till Friday to see it again!

Here is another clip from ET on the set of Race to Witch Mountain there is more footage of the set scene and it has Anna Sophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig as well as the director saying some words. ET is just slowing leaking stuff out from the one set visit they did.

Variety gave the 1st official Get Smart review from the viewing at the Mann Chinese Theater in LA:

It seemed like a natural: Redo “Get Smart,” the landmark ’60s TV spy spoof, with Steve Carell. Who better to update Maxwell Smart - the idiot-savantish secret agent originated by Don Adams - than “The Office’s” master of disassociative, self-effacing humor? But in the end, a bigscreen version of television’s “Get Smart” had issues to address - the hero was too one-dimensional, the female lead too adoring, the Cold War too over. So helmer Peter Segal’s formulaic takeoff is neither fish nor fowl, not quite faithful to the show, but not quite bringing it into the 21st century either. It may ride Carell’s star to major B.O., at least initially. But it’s nothing you want to take off your shoe and call home about. Read the rest of this entry »

Dwayne Johnson is speaking to a drunken woman who has somehow managed to slip past security and into the middle of a scene he’s shooting. He’s in Las Vegas, outside a casino, filming his next kid-friendly movie, Race to Witch Mountain, in which he’ll play a cabdriver being taken for a ride by two paranormal teens. When the inebriated woman wanders onto the set, you half expect Johnson to grab a metal folding chair and smash it over her head, but no. “Excuse me, sweetheart,” he tells her, in the reassuring tones usually reserved for putting small children to bed. “Darling? Etonline release another video of Dwayne talking about his film Get Smart and this time we get some details on a smooching scene in the film. I can’t imagine this is probably going to be so funny on film maybe they will get nominated for Best Kiss. Anyways the interview is Hilarious. Thanks again to Alina for sending in the clip.

DWAYNE JOHNSON taps his softer side in the new big-screen comedy ‘Get Smart,’ and the former WWE wrestler tells ET what it was like to kiss STEVE CARELL onscreen!

“That’s the length I’d go as a committed actor,” says Johnson, adding with his trademark smirk, “Steve, for some reason, just wanted to do take after take after take after take.”

In theaters June 20, ‘Get Smart’ stars Carell as Maxwell Smart, a secret agent who has always dreamt of working in the field alongside stalwart superstar Agent 23 (Johnson) and gets his chance when their headquarters are compromised by the evil agency KAOS. And in the course of the plot, Carell and Johnson get to plant quite the smooch on each other!

So, how many takes were required to get it right?

“We got it on one take, but he wanted 15, 16, 17 takes,” jokes Johnson, adding, “When you have chronic halitosis, mints don’t do anything.”

Also starring ANNE HATHAWAY as Agent 99, ALAN ARKIN as the Chief and TERENCE STAMP as the KAOS head baddie, Siegfried, ‘Get Smart’ is directed by ‘The Longest Yard’ helmer PETER SEGAL.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s rise from the wrestling mat to the red carpet.

He’s had more nicknames than P. Diddy and about as many careers. Not that it matters. Hollywood can smell what The Rock is cooking, and lately it’s money – lots of it.

After careers in football and pro wrestling and with hit-and-miss turns in both commercial and offbeat films, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – (aka, The Rock, Rocky Maiva, Flex Cavana, The Brahma Bull, need we go on?) – had spent much of the last seven years inching up the Hollywood food-chain with steadfast perseverance.

But when his modest 2007 Disney comedy The Game Plan earned more than $130 million, and another $40 million more recently in DVD rentals and sales, Johnson suddenly found himself in entirely different territory.

No sooner had he sorted through an all-new stack of scripts and offers, than an invitation to the showbiz Super Bowl landed on his desk.

“It was a surreal moment,” he says of the limo ride that brought him to The Academy Awards on Feb. 24. “You’re in a line of cars, all getting ready to pull up. You have to wait your turn, so you have a lot of time to think. I remember I was just incredibly grateful.”

I thought this would be an interesting read. The organization for the cause that we are trying to raise money for through the DJ Bday Project The MTDN is getting some attention from celebrities:

Actress Jessica Biel is involved in the launch of Make the Difference Network, and the site that connects people to nonprofits will be run by her father Jon Biel and social entrepreneur Kent McBride. MTDN.com makes cutting-edge Web technology readily available to participating nonprofits and matches nonprofit organizations with potential donors. 

Other celebrities are using MTDN to help spread the word about their own nonprofit organizations or to support their favorite nonprofits on the site. For example, Dwayne Johnson, Chairman/Founder of The Rock Foundation, is using MTDN to promote his organization that provides programs designed to enrich and empower the lives and self-esteem of children who are hospitalized for medical disabilities, disorders and illnesses. Gabriel Union, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Karolina Kurkova, Brian Griese, Elaine Hendrix, Bode Miller, Jordan Paul, Michelle Roark and Josh Peek are also involved.

I think this is great! It’s gets more people aware and more help for the non-profit causes sponsored by celebrities!

Things nearly got bloody as Anne Hathaway tussled with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on the set of the upcoming Get Smart movie.The two were shooting a fight scene when Hathaway accidentally kicked Johnson in the head with the heel of her shoe, according to the film’s director, Peter Segal. (more…)

I just found out about this from prowrestling.net:

Tonight! 4/9/08 on American Idol John Cena, Triple H, Chris Jericho, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be among the celebrities appearing on tonight’s “American Idol” on FOX. (I bet Dwayne’s appearance will be taped) The show is dubbed “Idols Gives Back” and will also feature appearances the big three presidential candidates. During the show, viewers will be able to make donations to the various causes via internet or phone. Last year, the fundraising effort raised US$75 million for charities including the Children’s Defense Fund and the Children’s Health Fund.

Well today is my birthday, another year older. I am so glad it fell on Friday this year. I won’t be around until later this weekend maybe Sunday so if there are any updates look for them then.

Dwayne is on the premiere cover of Men’s Athletic Quarterly. I have never heard of this magazine but he is on the cover and it is featured at their website. I have posted the full article here and will keep a lookout for it on newsstands hit the stands.
